Sara Nodjoumi – Writer & Director
Sara Nodjoumi is an independent filmmaker and producer. Recent credits include When God Sleeps, co-produced by ITVS and supported by the Sundance Institute, the Catapult Film Fund, Fork Films and various other domestic and international documentary organizations. When God Sleeps premiered at Tribeca, has played over 70 festivals worldwide, and won numerous awards, along with being shortlisted for the 2018 Academy Award in Germany. She also produced The Iran Job, which was also shortlisted for a German Academy Award (2014) and released worldwide on Netflix. In 2020 Nodjoumi and her producing partner Till Schauder released Reggae Boyz (co-produced with ARTE, Audience Award Brooklyn Film Festival) in digital theaters across America. She directed Of Kings and Paintings, a documentary about the history of Qajar painting in Iran, produced by Homa Films. She is an alum of the Sundance Creative Producer’s Summit and the IFP Cannes Producer’s Network Fellowship. She is also a recipient of the Inaugural Brown Girls Doc Mafia Artist Sustainability Grant. Sara is currently working with HBO on a documentary about her father, the controversial Iranian painter Nicky Nodjoumi.
Mehran Haghighi – Producer
Mehran Haghighi began his career in film industry in 1991 by co-founding Behnegar, a film production company in Iran. In a span of 20 years at Behnegar he was involved in the production of several fiction feature films, some of which were co-produced with filmmakers from France, Japan, Tunisia, and Germany. Five of the 13 films he has worked on have been recognized with industry awards. Mehran Haghighi was the co-producer of the feature film Djomeh (Iran, France 2000), recipient of the Camera d’Or in Cannes Film Festival 2000. Other co-produced international productions include Wind Carpet (Iran, Japan 2003), and Bab’Aziz: The Prince Who Contemplated His Soul (Iran, France, Tunisia, Germany, and England 2005), recipient of the Best Feature Film at the Golden Minbar Film Festival. After living for many years in Iran, Mehran moved to the US in 2013, and established Homa Films, a production company, in 2016. Today Mehran’s focus is on producing films that showcase Iranian heritage, history, art and culture. Mehran’s most recent film is the documentary Of Kings and Paintings, which was released in 2019.
Bahman Kiarostami – Editor
Bahman Kiarostami lives and works in Tehran, as a documentary film director, editor, and cinematographer. He made his first documentary ‘Morteza Momayez: Father of Iranian Contemporary Graphic Design’ in 1996. Most of his documentaries focus on valuing and legitimizing processes in art, but also cover the visible yet obscured and unnoticed details which define Iran’s post-revolutionary visual culture. His Filmography includes: Monir (2015) Taxi-Tehran (2011), The Treasure Cave (2009), Statues of Tehran (2008), Anonymous (co-directed with Kaveh Kazemi) (2007), Re-enactment (2006), Pilgrimage (2005), Two Bows (2004), Infidels (2004), I Saw Shoush (2002).
Kayvan Jahanshahi – Composer
Kayvan Jahanshahi is an award-winning film score composer, sound designer, and filmmaker with more than 20 years of experience in film, television, commercial scoring, and cinematic music and sound design. He is the recipient of several awards for film music compositions. Jahanshahi is experienced in handling a wide variety of programs to compose, synthesize, and revise music. He is also highly knowledgeable of the principles and methods of teaching setar, a traditional Iranian string instrument.
